Episode 3: Batman!

Our third episode finds us focusing on Batman! We’re not trying to cover all bases, here, so before you dig out your Detective Comics #27, please breathe deeply (in space). We had all just seen The Dark Knight Rises, so there’s a lot of that, and a lot of the Nolan trilogy in general. We love these movies, and I think it shows in our discussion.

My YouTube-fu is inferior to Lindsay’s, and TDKR doesn’t seem to be parceled out into the internet yet, so I’m not going to be able to make most of these things into clips. I’ll do my best though! Here’s some of the things we talk about this time around:

1. Bane’s voice

2. Post 9/11 Batman as lens for the economic crisis

3. House Greyjoy’s sigil as evil ovaries:

4. The prison chant, “deshi basara”

5. Thematic echoes across Nolan’s Batman universe

6. Talia al Ghul/Miranda Tate vs Selina Kyle

7. More of No. 2 – Batman and Capitalism, TDKR predicting #Occupy, the theme of consequences

8. 80’s/ Recession chic

9. We ♥ Commissioner Gordon

10. Anne Hathaway: the shoes, the body, the best Catwoman

11. Batman as reflection of his time

12. Gotham City = Cancer City

13. MFK Adam West, Michael Keaton, Christian Bale Batmans (Batmen?)

14. MFK Scarecrow, Bane, Joker

15. MFK Rachel Dawes, Talia al Ghul, Selina Kyle

– Nissa

PS No really – how can I marry Bane? I want this to happen to my life.

  1. What’s with the Ginny hate?!

    • Ah crap. I replied and now lost my place 😦 (Nissa, this is Emily btw….)

      • We will definitely have to do a Harry Potter retrospective episode at some point, because I will never run out of things to say about it. I have never liked Ginny, and not just because I really don’t believe that Harry Potter gets to have a happy life/ending. Plus, I find it super creepy how all we know about Ginny is how literally everyone never stops saying how she’s exactly like Harry’s mom. And then he marries her. -Nissa
